The overall situation continues to develop. Note that 39 Tk has transferred out of the north and is moving behind Soviet lines to the south, to escort 114 Rifle Regiment to enter later in the day. The Germans call off their attack, having expected light resistance only. They were taking casualties, but might have scored a good success had they continued. Still, they didn’t know if more Soviets were on the way, what was behind them, etc. and an attack with a single reinforced battalion in the woods took away two German strengths: being dug-in and having artillery. So the feeling was that the casualties were not worth the gain of some terrain, and the Germans dropped a ton of smoke and withdrew 2-3 klicks to the east.

Further south, the Soviet assault ground on, gaining only a few hexes a turn, but still no Germans have interposed themselves in the path. Of course, who would want to? The barrage markers show where the Germans interdicted Soviet movement across the open with continuous fire barrages, which greatly slowed the support and follow-on elements. It is tough going against German artillery and heavy terrain (not to mention occasional snow, though not that much fell this day.
